PaleoWest Celebrates Stewardship Day at Nine Mile Canyon

Sep 17, 2021

On Saturday, September 11, 2021, PaleoWest was honored to join Site Stewards and others in Nine Mile Canyon, Utah, for a public archaeology event known as Stewardship Day.

Organized by the Nine Mile Canyon Coalition, this free event offered visitors an excellent opportunity to discover more about the famous archaeological site and its history.

PaleoWest’s Jamie Hollingsworth and Ralph Burillo acted as upstanding representatives of PaleoWest. Over the course of the event, they interacted with over 150 members of the public, many of whom were visiting Nine Mile Canyon for the very first time.

With years of experience conducting preservation projects at the canyon site, our team enjoyed their time, engaging in discussions about archaeology, the canyon’s famous prehistoric rock art, and best practices to adopt when visiting archaeological sites.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Nine Mile Canyon Coalition. Events such as Stewardship Day are excellent educational tools, bringing people together and ensuring the long-term preservation of Nine Mile Canyon and other cultural heritage sites across the United States.

We look forward to seeing you again next year!
